About Athar Osama
Dr. Athar Osama holds a PhD in public policy with a specialization in science, technology, and innovation policy from the Frederick S. Pardee - RAND Graduate School for Public Policy in Santa Monica, CA. Currently, Dr. Osama works for a London-based technology commercialization consulting, management, and venture capital company where he works on promoting innovation support for London SMEs and commercialization of low-carbon technologies. In this capacity, Athar provides advice on technical and market due-diligence, product development, innovation management, route-to-market and supply chain, business and strategic planning, and mentoring and team-building issues.
In the past, Athar has worked on a variety of issues dealing with science and innovation policy including, but not limited to, management of innovation, R&D management and measurement systems, financing of new technologies, entrepreneurship and venture capital, and technology-based economic development. He has also specially focussed on systems of innovation, venture capital industries, information and communication technologies, and higher education systems in developing countries.
In 2005, Athar authored the first National Software Industry Study of Pakistan’s Software Industry. He has also presented at the AAAS Research Symposium for Next Generation of Leaders in Science and Technology Policy at Washington, DC. He is also the Founder of Pakistan Research Support Network (Research-Network) and www.Muslim-Science.com. He writes widely on issues at the intersection of science, innovation, and development across a range of print and online publications including, but not limited to, The Daily Dawn, The News International, SciDev.Net, Dinarstandard.com, eCommerceTimes.com, Pakistaniat.com, UnderstandingPakistan.com, Chowk.com etc. Athar has a bachelors in aeronautical engineering from Pakistan Airforce Academy where he also won the coveted Sword of Honor.
